Gutter Cleaning in Wahroonga

I get a fair few calls out of Wahroonga, usually from people up near the top of the ridge where the trees hang low over the roofline. It's one of the highest points on the North Shore, sitting around 202 metres up, and between that and the tree cover running down toward Ku-ring-gai Chase, gutters here fill up with more than the average amount of leaf litter and bark. Below are the questions I get asked most on the phone before I've even had a look at the roof.

Q01
With all these big trees around, how often do my gutters actually need doing?
Depends on what's dropping on your roof and how close it is. A lot of the blocks in Wahroonga have mature gums and other established trees right over the house, which means more buildup than a suburb with open, treeless streets. I'd rather have a look and tell you honestly what you need than guess over the phone. That's the honest answer I'll always give, rather than a blanket number.
Q02
Can you trim back the branches hanging over my gutters while you're there?
I'll clear what's in the gutter itself, but I won't be cutting live branches off your trees. Ku-ring-gai Council treats anything 5 metres or taller, or with a trunk over 150mm thick, as a tree under their rules, and you need council approval before pruning or removing one, even on your own land. If overhanging branches are the real problem, that's a conversation with an arborist and the council, not something I can sort on the day.
Q03
A lot of these old Wahroonga homes are two storeys with steep, complicated rooflines. Does that change the quote?
It can. A fair chunk of the housing stock here is older and built on bigger blocks, with multiple roof pitches and valleys that collect more than a simple single-storey roof would. I look at access, pitch and how much gutter run there actually is when I quote, which is also why I quote every job in person rather than over the phone.
Q04
We're right near Ku-ring-gai Chase. Does that make any difference to how you clean, given the bushfire risk?
It changes why it matters more than it changes how I do the work. Parts of Ku-ring-gai have been mapped as bush fire prone land, and the NSW RFS is clear that clean gutters are one of the basic things that cut ember risk around a house. I do the same thorough clean either way, but if you're close to the bush I'd treat it as something to stay on top of rather than leave until it's visibly overflowing.

How a job runs

I come out and have a look at the roof and the access before I give you a price, so what you're quoted is based on your actual gutters. Once you've said yes, I get up there, clear the gutters and downpipes by hand, and check for any blockages sitting in the downpipe itself. I take photos before I start and again once it's done, so you've got a clear before and after record of the job. It's just me on the roof, no subcontractors, and you can settle up by invoice or cash once I'm finished.

What I do in Wahroonga

Gutter Cleaning

Gutter Cleaning

A full clear-out of leaves, twigs and built-up debris, plus a check for rust, sagging or loose brackets while he's up there. Blocked gutters are one of the most common (and most avoidable) causes of water damage to a roofline.

Solar Panel Cleaning

Solar Panel Cleaning

Dust, pollen and bird droppings build up on panels over time and can quietly cut into how much power they generate. A careful clean, without scratching the surface or disturbing the wiring, helps your system keep performing the way it's meant to.

Downspout Cleaning

Clear gutters don't help much if the downspout underneath is blocked. Corey checks and clears downspouts so water actually drains away from your home instead of backing up and overflowing.
